How to Travel to the Research Site

Depending on how your clinical study is structured, you may need to travel to your closest research site to participate. Read below to learn more about the process of traveling to a research site and some of the logistics you may need to consider.

Some studies require visits to the research site and will partner with transportation services that can schedule car services, airfare, train, and bus transportation. These services can also coordinate hotel stays and special accommodations. The study team will provide information about what exactly your study may cover, but if you have questions, you can read about Submitting Reimbursements for Studies.

However, because every study has different processes surrounding travel and compensation, you may not have full travel options available to you. In that case, here are some options for you to use.

Ride-Shares

If you need a ride to your research site, you can use a ride-share like Lyft or Uber. These expenses may not be covered by the study and may be out-of-pocket.

Remote Participation

Some clinical studies allow patients to occasionally participate remotely, without traveling to the main research site. This can be done through electronic devices, apps, or even tele-health video or phone calls. The research team will explain how often you need to travel to the research site.
